ASUU STRIKE UPDATE: FG, ASUU Reach Agreement Over Strike

The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities have reached an agreement to end the over five month old strike by ASUU. The lecturer’s association has however said that its members may return to work next week.
The Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike told journalists at a meeting with the leadership of ASUU, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Universities Commission and five vice- chancellors of universities that all contending issues between the parties have been resolved.
The parties signed a document to seal the agreement which spells great hope that the over five-month old strike may be called off within one week, although the president of ASUU, Professor Nasir Faggae declined to say what was contained in the document.
ASUU’s demands include the upward review of the retirement age for professors from 65 to 70; adequate funding to revitalise the university system; progressive increase of budgetary allocations to the education sector by 26 per cent; transfer of federal government property to universities; setting up of research and development units by companies; payment of earned allowances; and renegotiation of the signed agreement.
The agreement between the two is reached barely 24 hours after the Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe presented a proof of payment of N200 billion into an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The strike began on July 1st 2013 and lasted for over five months before this resolution was reached.

Chidinma spoke with the ladies saying that being focused is crucial to being successful. She stressed the need to be adequately prepared and to follow through in achieving ones dreams, even in the face of difficulties. The songstress also encouraged Always to keep up the good work saying that “I am really excited when I get to share my experience with girls to help motivate them; I always look forward to this kind of activity. For me it is way above music because it’s a way of prodding people to become better.”

Obasanjo's letter unbecoming, self-serving &provocative – Presidency

The presidency has responded to former president Obasanjo's letter to President Jonathan where he accused the current president of taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria. See the State House press release below...

We have noted the publication on several websites today of a letter recently written by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The Presidency acknowledges that it has indeed received the said letter from Chief Obasanjo.

We however find it highly unbecoming, mischievous and provocative that a letter written by a former Head of State and respected elder statesman to President Jonathan has been deliberately leaked to the mass media in a deplorable effort to impugn the integrity of the President and denigrate his commitment to giving Nigeria the best possible leadership.

While many patriotic, objective and well-meaning Nigerians have already condemned the leaked letter as self-serving, hypocritical, malicious, indecent, and very disrespectful of the highest office in the land, President Jonathan has directed that none of his aides or any government official should join issues with Chief Obasanjo over it.

The President himself will, at the appropriate time, offer a full personal response to the most reckless, baseless, unjustifiable and indecorous charges levied against him and his administration by the former Head of State.

The Police in Imo State, recently,rounded up the brain behind the death of a 12-year-old girl, Ifunanya Favour Iberi who was declared wanted two months ago by arresting a 34-year-old man identified as Samuel Chukwunyere.The missing little Ifunanya was last seen by members of her family on Sunday, October 13, 2013, when she could not return to their house after her day’s routine activities .
In an interview with Crime Alert, the suspect confessed that he actually lured the innocent victim to his house and raped her to death.

“I forced her. I tried to use her through her private part but my own thing could not enter. I now turned her and she started shouting. I now held her well, well. I don’t want anybody to hear her voice. I now started using her through her anus. In the process of using her through the anus, she now shouted and I now held her back again, using her. In the process of using her, she now gave up.

I now asked myself how will I manage to hide the corpse of this girl. I now rock my brain and rock my brain and the shovel that I have there cannot dig the ground. This ground sef na stone ground. I cannot dig it alone. I now searched around my place here and I saw that pit there (pointing to the location of the pit) and I now say let me come and put her inside that pit, so that the place will be enough to hide it. Nobody will know. I now rolled her with some cloths. After12 to one o’clockin the midnight, I now brought her to this place and now throw her inside the pit.”

“His arrest and subsequent interrogation encouraged detectives to move to this place where this very horrendous spectacle was again discovered. It is a clear case of sunset at dawn. She may have gone but her soul is seriously crying for justice and this is what I will surely do,investigations also revealed that “this very suspect is a serial killer, serial rapist and is responsible for the missing and death of many of our young girls, not only in Imo State but in some parts of the country. I am hoping that pathologists will equally ascertain the real cause of the death of the innocent girl.”

When are we meeting Onome? When is Don Jazzy getting married?

That one, I don’t know o! You people are going to ask God. When God gives me the liver to be able to propose.
I have trust issues, I’m scared of relationships. I have been scared of relationships for a long time, until Onome came o.
See, I’m very very dangerous in the sense that my mind can change sometimes.
For instance, a lot of people used to think that I like people with big hips and big nyansh – big–figured people.
But I woke up one morning and everything changed. I’m a totally different person now and I like my women straight up from the runway – Lepa to bad (Smiles).
Some of my friends say I’m having midlife crisis, but that’s what I like now.
So, I might just be saying I don’t know when I’m going to get married, but all of the sudden you’ll hear that I’ve gotten married.
I like my privacy, so I might just get married and you’d hear that I got married three months ago or something like that.
It’s not like I don’t want people to come for my wedding o! It’s just that I don’t like the story. You people can do the party after the wedding (Laughs).
I believe in jinxing. I don’t want a situation where I will tell you people “oh! This is Onome and this is when I want to get married”. I have done that in the past, introducing my girlfriend, but people would just jinx it for us because they will just put their eyes on our thing and it might just spoil things. So much pressure. The video of your performance at Felabration 2013 has gone viral. How do you feel about it?
My Felabration performance was all about paying homage to the great Fela “Abamieda” himself. People who were there saw it for what it was.

Can you share with us what prompted you to str*p to your und*rpants on stage? I have said what I want to say on that subject. No further comment.
There have been a lot of criticisms from various quarters including Seun Kuti that Fela never performed on stage in pants. Were you oblivious of that fact?

Did you really have an er3ct1on on stage, because it seemed so from the pictures and what caused the er3ct*on?

How do you cope with female fans?
I love my female fans very much and they love me right back. I have a lot of love.
What’s next from Burna?
My tour is still ongoing, I had to stop in Lagos for a quick show but more videos are coming from the album soon so my fans should watch out for more good things from me.
